284 - Paul Hammond (Get the Led Out)

In episode 284 of “Have Guitar Will Travel”, presented by Vintage Guitar Magazine, host James Patrick Regan speaks with guitarist Paul Hammond from the revered Led Zeppelin tribute band “Get the Led Out”. In their conversation Paul talks about growing up outside of Philadelphia learning guitar at early age from his father who built guitars and amps as a hobby. Paul takes us through meeting Paul Sinclair, lead vocals for Get the Led Out, to work in his original band “Sinclair” in the late ‘80’s and the ups and downs as well as how the slowly morphed into their Led Zeppelin tribute. Paul tells us what sets them apart from the other Led Zeppelin tributes in that they don’t dress the part so much as they play the songs as they were recorded as a tribute to the recordings playing up 130 shows a year. Paul discusses how the Get the Led Out gig set him up to justify his guitar collection and he walks us through the 2+ guitar boats he takes and the road and the two full Marshall stacks he uses live and gives us a taste of what he has at home. Paul talks about his ‘59 Burst, the 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard he uses on the road and the adventure of finding the “one” and the role Mike Hickey, long time tech for Joe Bonamassa played in finding it. Paul describes his interactions with the members of Led Zeppelin, seeing them live and their opinions of the “Get the Led Out” band.
