In episode 234 of “Have Guitar Will Travel”, presented by Vintage Guitar Magazine, host, James Patrick Regan speaks again with ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro. They spoke in the lobby of the hotel he was staying at, please excuse the noise. In their conversation Jake tells us about his new Christmas album with a lot of collaborations including Jimmy Buffet, Michael McDonald and Yo-Yo Ma to name a few and his holiday tour that’s happening now. Jake talks about his childhood Christmas’s in Hawaii and his relationship with ukulele builder Kamaka and Jake’s signature ukulele. Jake describes his early influences including Herb Ohta Sr. and Eddie Kamae. Jake tells us about his singer and guitarist in the band Justin Kawika Young his longtime bassist, Jackson Waldhoff. Jake describes his relationship with other Hawaiian artists like Keola Beamer, John Keawe and Ledward Ka’apana to name a few. Jake discusses the business side of his career and tells us about his favorite Hawai’ian island.
