129 - Paul Gilbert In episode 129 of “Have Guitar Will Travel”, presented by Vintage Guitar Magazine, host James Patrick Regan speaks with the amazing guitarist Paul Gilbert. In their conversation Paul covers the final shows for Mr. Big in Japan and a charity event related to the Japanese earthquake. Paul tells us about how he was introduced to Mike Varney and the beginnings of Racer X and Paul’s time at GIT in Hollywood. Paul tells us about his relationship with Ibanez guitars and his early endorsements with Wayne Charvel who at the time worked for Jackson, B.C. Rich and Gibson. Paul tells us about his guitars and his collection which includes a lot of post lawsuit era instruments from Ibanez. Paul also discusses his amps which includes a Fender Vibro Champ a’ 70’s Princeton and a Pignose. Paul discusses his first electric guitar a Gibson Les Paul Custom. >128 - Matt Scannell (Vertical Horizon) In episode 128 of “Have Guitar Will Travel”, presented by Vintage Guitar Magazine host James Patrick Regan speaks with guitarist and vocalist Matt Scannell from the band Vertical Horizon. In their conversation they cover Matt’s current tours and his road gear, a Line 6 Helix and a pedalboard which weighs just 9lbs and his backup a Line 6 Pod Express… but they quickly began talking about Matt’s collection of Marshall Plexi’s. Matt discusses the shear volume of the Plexi and his solution the Fryette Power station attenuator. Matt also talks about the rest of his amp collection: vintage Fenders, Vox AC30’s Matchless and Divided by 13. Matt discusses his stage guitars electrics made by Paul Reed Smith, acoustics made by Taylor and then we dive deep into Matt’s vintage guitars and how he became a lover of vintage instruments. Matt tells us about his friend who recently passed away James Tyler a guitar builder who made a huge impact on Matt’s life.

127 - Will Turpin (Collective Soul) In episode 127 of “Have Guitar Will Travel”, presented by Vintage Guitar Magazine host James Patrick Regan speaks with bassist Will Turpin from Collective Soul. In their conversation Will tells us about the current tour with Hootie and the Blowfish. Will talks about how he joined Collective Soul which goes way back to going to the Roland’s church when he was a child and it was Will’s father’s studio Ed Roland worked at when putting together the songs for the first Collective Soul album. Will discusses his start on bass and the music scene in Atlanta and his dad’s studio and all the bands of that era. We discuss Collective Soul’s new album “Here to Eternity” which was recorded in Elvis’s Palm Springs estate. Will tells us about his recording technique and his gear in general including his bass collection which includes a Music Man Sting Ray given to him by Eddie Van Halen and Will gives us an in depth overview of his pedalboard. In their conversation they discuss the current tour with Foreigner and John Waite, and how James fills out his off time when they’re not at the venue. James takes us through his start on guitar and his love of Bo Diddley (who’s daughter James is friends with) Jimi Hendrix (whom James saw 5 times) and Eric Clapton (who he studied by slowing the lp’s to half speed). James tells us about his college years studying aerospace and working for his father’s construction company. James describes how he met Dennis DeYoung and the guys in Dennis’s cover band and how that band became Styx, how they got signed by A&M. They discuss gear through the years .
